Emotional Intelligence, commonly abbreviated as EI, is best defined as our capacity to perceive, express, understand and manage our own emotions and the emotions of others in an effective and appropriate manner, both in the workplace and in our personal lives.

Where do we most commonly get stuck in our lives? 
Dealing with our feelings, or the feelings of those around us!

EI is simply being smart about our feelings and the feelings of others.

Emotional Literacy and Emotional Intelligence are the key.

Decades of behavioral decision research has consistently shown that emotions, more than any other contributing factor, are what motivate us to act. Every decision we make, every choice to act or not act is determined by our intention to manage our feelings in one way or another, to either feel better or to avoid feeling badly. Emotion is the single pivot point upon which rests our entire experience of the quality of our life.

"Low self-esteem is a 'doing' wound. We don't believe or feel we are capable and competent.
Low self-worth is a 'being' wound. We don't feel worthy of love and respect, from ourselves or from others.
Both have profound consequences for how we live our lives, for how we treat ourselves and how we treat others.

The remedies for low self-esteem and low self-worth are both similar and unique, and truthfully, they are not that difficult to repair. Together they create the foundation for the presence or absence of that essential confidence we need to venture forth into the world and create the lives we want and deserve."

I have chosen to focus on emotional intelligence coaching because I see EI as the most consistent and effective gateway to authentic being for my clients. Being one's most authentic, powerful and creative self is the foundation for everything else in our lives. If we get that part right, the rest simply falls into place.

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand why you think and act the way you do so you can best choose how you want to think and act in the moment. You can also then better understand other people: what motivates them, how to work cooperatively with them, and how to inspire them to reach their potential. As you can see, emotional intelligence is a greater factor for ensuring successful results when working with people than technical knowledge and skills. And when the factors are missing, the results can damage both career growth and a person’s well-being.

The higher a person climbs that ladder in an organization, the more critical is their ability to work with others. The skills of accessing your emotional intelligence should be considered a foundation for all leadership programs. As human beings, there is little in business, and in life, that is not affected by or a result of our emotions.
